Storm Water Issues?

  1. Do you feel the curbing in our neighborhood is too low to manage water runoff during a heavy storm effectively?
  2. Are the drains near your property ineffective due to debris build up or are they collapsing?
  3. Does the creek or lake adjoining your property overflow frequently causing damage?
  4. Do you experience water pooling in your yard during a heavy rainfall?
  5. Do you get water in your basement due to any of the above?

City of Duluth representatives have offered to hear our concerns and will also share what we can do as homeowners to help lessen storm water buildup.

The City has requested a list of specific addresses with storm water issues in Norman Downes. They have agreed to investigate problem areas in our neighborhood to find a solution.

Please join us Tuesday, July 18th, at 7 PM in the Bunten Park Community Building for this important meeting and educational session.

If you are unable to attend, but would still like the City to be aware of water problems on or near your property, then please print this form, fill it out, and return it to one of the message boxes at the entrances or the pool prior to July 18th.

Let’s all work together to get our streams clean and our community beautiful!

Duluth NOW Community Clean-Up Day

The City of Duluth is happy to announce that a city-wide Community Clean-Up Day is being hosted at the Duluth Public Works Facility located at 2450 Chattahoochee Dr, Duluth, GA 30097 on June 17th with extended dumpster hours from 8:00am-5:00pm. The Clean-Up Day is being offered as a free service to our wonderful residents as part of the Duluth N.O.W (Neighborhood Outreach Work) Program. Residents simply need to bring their City of Duluth dumpster card OR a current utility bill showing they live in the City of Duluth and they will be able to participate in this great event. Not only will the City be extending the hours of the dump on June 17th, but we will be accepting several items that are usually not allowed, such as:

  • Tires: 4 tires per resident for free, $4 per tire after that,
  • New and used paint: Any usable paint will be donated to Global Paint for Charity and shipped to developing countries. All unusable paint will be disposed of by the City of Duluth.
  • Debris stored in your backyard from that remodeling project you finished last year J.

We hope this amnesty day at the Duluth Public Works Facility will encourage residents to take advantage of cleaning up Duluth and keeping the Community beautiful. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at baiken@nullduluthga.net or 770.476.1790. We are looking forward to seeing everyone on the 17th! Additional information regarding the normal services offered at the Duluth dumpsters can be found here.

April 22nd Norman Downes Neighborhood Work Day

Saturday (April 22nd 9 AM – 2 PM) is a neighborhood work day at the Norman Downes pool. We have an ambitious list of things we want to accomplish prior to the pool opening. If you are able to assist please join us on Saturday as we work on our pool. Donuts and coffee will be provided.

We need 3 – 4 pressure washers, hoses, and extension cords if you are able to provide them for the day as we clean the entrance signs and pool furniture.

Here is the list of items we hope to accomplish:

  1. Clean out the two bathrooms and storage areas at the pool.
  2. Paint the two bathroom ceilings white andpaint the interior of both bathrooms. (Color will be voted on Saturday morning.)
  3. Paint the bathroom floors if needed. (The bathroom sinks, mirror and storage will be installed after painting the restrooms later).
  4. Cut remaining wires sticking up on the fence surrounding the pool to prevent injury to kids who may decide to climb them.
  5. Prime unpainted boards and sand door on the pump house as needed.
  6. Install the posts for the message board at the pool and the split rail fenceposts in front of the culvert drop off.
  7. Paint the picnic table in front of the pool.
  8. Pressure wash the entrance at Kensington and Heath. (I think it would be best to wait on touch up paint until they are completely dry on another day.)
  9. Spray with WD 40 and cover all bee holes in the 3 structures.
  10. Pressure wash the pump house and the outside of the restrooms if needed and prepare for painting.
  11. Scrape and paint the large grill
  12. Pressure wash all the deck furniture.Install a new lock on the Health message boards
  13. Pick up trash around the pool area and creek.
  14. Remove ivy from trees around the pool.
